Overview

Are you ready to support the development of cutting-edge biosensor technology? Join us as a key member of our engineering team to help bring innovative medical devices from concept to commercialization. You will be responsible for supporting the mechanical design, product strategy, and product development for novel indications using Advanced Optronics’ advanced shape-sensing MEMS sensors. This is an opportunity to contribute directly to the evolution of our technology platform under the direct supervision of our engineering team.

We are a seed-stage startup that delivers miniaturized medical devices leveraging thin-film microfabricated sensors, 10x thinner than a human hair. These sensors are designed based on novel MEMS concepts and have already secured over $5M in capital with a development agreement with a major corporate partner.

This role is critical to supporting our R&D efforts by providing technical expertise in mechanical design, product integration, and sensor system validation. You will work alongside engineers and scientists focused on the next generation of healthcare solutions.

Job Details

Compensation
  • $75,000–$95,000 / year depending on experience level with full-time benefits: medical insurance & stock options
Roles & Responsibilities
  1.  Mechanical Design Support (30%):

    • Provide technical support to engineers by assisting in the design, development, and testing of mechanical systems and bio-mechanical sensor components including electromechanical design.
    • Assist with product strategy and new product development, including design conceptualization, prototyping, and assembly.

  2. System Integration (30%):

    • Integrate end-user feedback from clinical experts, engineers, and regulatory specialists into device designs as directed by the supervising engineer.
    • Support the integration of MEMS sensors into broader biosensor systems for novel applications.

  3. Technical Documentation & Visualization (20%):

    • Develop visual materials such as 3D mechanical assemblies for marketing and technical teams to support product communication and documentation.
    • Contribute to testing and validation plans for product development, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and functional goals.

  4. Product Development & Manufacturing Support (20%):

    • Provide support in the design, prototyping, and manufacturing of electro-mechanical systems.
    • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on end-to-end product development, including supply chain coordination and testing strategy.

Candidate Profile

Educational & Experience:

• Associate’s Degree/Advanced Diploma in Mechanical Engineering Technology; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 10+ years of experience in product design and manufacturing, with a focus on electro-mechanical systems.
• Proven background in biomechanical sensor design, regulatory compliance, and end-to-end product development.

Required Technical Skills:

• Proficient in CAD software for mechanical system design (e.g., SolidWorks,).
• Strong understanding of electromechanical systems and their integration with MEMS-based sensors.
• Experience in prototyping, testing, and validation of medical devices or similar electro-mechanical products.
• Familiarity with regulatory requirements such as FDA, ISO 13485, and quality system standards.
• Strong communication skills for collaboration across departments

Desired technical skills:

• Background in product lifecycle management (PLM) and supply chain coordination.
• Experience in developing technical documentation and visual materials for marketing or training purposes.

What Success Looks Like
  • In 3 Months: Demonstrate strong technical support capabilities across mechanical design, product development and sensor integration tasks.
  • In 6 Months: Implement significant additions to the product portfolio utilizing the existing biosensor technology, successfully prototype and support these efforts
  • In 12 Months: Successfully demonstrate measurable improvements in product manufacturing, adapting processes and production for medium volume production
